hardly reflects the magnitude of that failure. Officers failed to protect children in the classroom, just as McCraw’s deflection of blame has inflamed and fractured tensions in this community 90 minutes west of San Antonio.and in McCraw’s constant blame-shifting is malfeasance of the worst kind. We will always wonder if inaction from DPS troopers, who were in the school’s hallways early and in force, contributed to the death toll.

Armed and trained, the DPS troopers waited for more than an hour as an 18-year-old armed with an assault-style weapon massacred 19 children and their two teachers. McCraw has been masterful at pinning blame on Pete Arredondo, the disgraced former Uvalde Consolidated ISD police chief, who is hardly blameless. But 91 DPS troopers didn’t intervene to save the children.
