The potential impact on homes for people in Morecambe by the development of the new Eden Project attraction needs to be a top priority for councillors following this year’s May local elections, Lancaster City Council’s leader has said.
Questions are being asked about the future of affordable housing in Morecambe, whether rents will rise, whether property owners or landlords will change, and of Airbnb-type rented holiday accommodation will increase with the Eden Project’s development.At the latest full meeting of Lancaster City Council, Labour Coun David Whitaker raised the topic of housing during an update from the council leader, Green Coun Caroline Jackson.
Another section in Coun Jackson’s report was about housing and regeneration included Morecambe locations such as the former Frontierland theme park site. Property and land developers have been asked to submit expressions of interest in the site to the city council. Coun Jackson’s report stated: “Officers and members of the cabinet have met to discuss future developments on Frontierland.
In reply, Coun Jackson said: “You are right. It will be discussed at the summit in March. We hope to air concerns and also have an expert who can talk about options.”
