Freshman sets meet record, personal best in 3,200 meters — then captures the 1,600 title, too
At least when she runs, there’s no need for anyone else to set the pace.
The winning mark by Williams topped the previous meet record of 10:35.31 by La Costa Canyon’s Kristin Fahy in 2019 and was the personal best for Williams, who earlier had clocked a 10:39.26 in a dual meet. Then, showing her toughness in one of the toughest doubles in track and field, Williams came back to win the 1600-meter run in 5:03.84, another PR but just missing her goal of breaking 5-minutes for the first time.
“I wanted something in the low 10:30s. I wanted to go 75 seconds for the first and last laps and I accomplished that, too. By the end of the season I’m going for 10:20 but I would be really happy if I could get down to 10:10.The 1,600 field had no chance as Williams scorched the first lap and ended up winning by more than 10 seconds.
