The signs are currently being investigated as a hate crime by police

A DUP councillor has said that offensive signs erected in the Belvoir area are a "sign of a community which has been pushed to its limit".

"While I condemn any form of racism or intimidation, I think these posters are a sign of a community which has been pushed to its limit. "All of the community were subjected to the effects this had on the area, elderly residents terrified to go to bed at night as their neighbour had been woken the night before to one of these criminals standing over them in their bed, women afraid to walk to the shop on their own at night or worried about letting their children out to play."

"So, while I condemn any racism, any intimidation or any threats or criminality, I stand with the community, of all creeds and colours, in their desire to have a safe settled place to live and raise their families. “The health and safety of our staff, contractors and, of course, all members of our communities is of paramount importance.“Approval for the demolition of the two tower blocks in Belvoir estate was agreed last year and clearing tower blocks is ahead of schedule.
