The man ran over a police officer in Blackpool before leading a motorway chase
The driver hit an officer in Blackpool, prompting a pursuit which involved officers from Lancashire, Cheshire, Merseyside and the North West Motorway Police overnight on Friday.
The chase carried on for some 80 miles from Blackpool, with the suspect eventually detained on the M6 in Stoke after officers forced the car to stop. After the incident, Merseyside Police's Road Policing Unit shared a picture of the car which had been stopped under heavy police pressure.The car could be seen to have a smashed windscreen while be surrounded by several police vehicles. The force confirmed that a man was arrested for wounding and dangerous driving.
A spokesperson said: "Driver of this vehicle ran over an officer near Blackpool and was pursued through @nwmwaypolice with @lancstacops @cheshirercu and ourselves before being stopped with tactics at j16 M6 in Stoke. Driver arrested for numerous offences." A spokesperson for Lancashire's road police unit said: "Citroen which ran over Police Officer on M55 Kirkham pursued through neighbouring forces at up to 140mph before being stopped using TPAC Tactics at Junc 16 M6. Driver arrested for wounding and dangerous driving. Thankfully the officer only has minor injuries."
