A driver was hospitalized in serious condition on Sunday after he was thrown from his vehicle in a crash on the Garden State Parkway in Monmouth County, authorities said.
The two-car crash occurred about 1:05 p.m. in the northbound lanes near mile marker 96.3 in Wall Township, according to New Jersey State Police. A Nissan Maxima headed north crossed all four Parkway lanes, struck the left guardrail and was then hit by a northbound Toyota Corolla, police said. “During the collision sequence, the driver of the Nissan was ejected and suffered serious injuries. The driver of the Toyota suffered minor injuries,” State Police Sgt. Philip Curry said in an email.
The crash closed all northbound lanes for several hours, which resulted in heavy traffic congestion. The cause of the crash is under investigation, Curry said.
