Nicky Doll gets honest about her new role on Drag Race France
How did you get involved withI think it came from different places. I really went on a war against French culture at some point to reopen the conversation about queer culture and about drag, and making sure that basically I could be a living example that overseas, drag queens can actually make it a full-time career.
So I love that in this season, you really get to experience what France is all about. And also, the queens are very fricking talented. I think that we are expected to be just queens, but you really see that we have amazing cabaret singers. The culture of cabaret in France is very old. A lot of people come out of this, not just drag queens, but also singers, dancers, and burlesque performers.because we are very dry and irreverent.herstory.
There is a lot of history about that, and I think that it is important that we talk about it. But also I think what is really important is that we can see, as of now, the only people that really took the risk to create something from scratch for the drag community to compete in was World of Wonder for drag queens.
I knew that French drag was really incredible, but given the fact that a lot of these girls don’t have the opportunity to really be able to work as a drag queen full time – when I left in 2015, there was maybe one queen that was able to do that because the industry was so green. [] The industry was not"green" but the promoters were not giving the opportunities that the girls deserved.
