JUST IN: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closes down more than 700 points, as renewed fears over the delta coronavirus variant cast a shadow on the economy's post-pandemic recovery.

The Dow ended the trading session down 2.09%, or 725 points, closing at 33,962. At one point the blue-index chip had plunged more than 850 points.Monday's sell-off puts the Dow on track for its worst day of the year.by downplaying inflation risks, noting that the sell-off comes after the stock market's recent highs. Just one week ago, the S&P 500 closed at an all-time record.
He also took aim at former President Donald Trump, who often took heat for equating the stock market with the health of the economy.
