Doug Wilson steps down as San Jose Sharks general manager after extended medical leave
SAN JOSE — Wanting to do what he felt was in the best interest of the Sharks’ organization and his own health, Doug Wilson on Thursday announced he is stepping down as team’s general manager after 19 years.
Wilson, a Hockey Hall of Fame defenseman, replaced Dean Lombardi in May 2003 as the Sharks’ general manager and built the team into one of the NHL’s winningest franchises, although it remains without a Stanley Cup. “I want to personally thank Doug for his 19 seasons as general manager of the San Jose Sharks,” Plattner said in a statement. “Doug and his staff produced remarkable results over a span that very few NHL teams can match, highlighted by our 2016 Stanley Cup run.
