Opinion: Doug McIntyre: Can native-born Americans pass the American citizenship test?
Travel the world and you will witness a common phenomenon, long lines of future Americans queuing up, sometimes for days, outside American embassies and consulates, hoping to get their Golden Ticket to the United States and a shot at citizenship. If you don’t like long lines, check out the Russian, Chinese, North Korean and Cuban embassies. No lines there. Ever.
So, naturally, there’s a dustup in Washington over proposed changes to the citizenship test all wannabe Americans must pass to become as American as apple pie. Not surprisingly, during the Trump years the exam was made much harder to discourage immigration and make it harder for people to vote. Also not surprising, the Biden people changed the test back as soon as they moved in.
Frankly, given the mangled language we’ve grown accustomed to hearing from our current and most recent president, I think this might be a good idea for future presidential debates.
