Former President Donald Trump said that the 1/6 Select Committee was being used to 'distract Americans' from the 'failures of Joe Biden and the Democrats.'

in a statement issued through his Save America PAC on Wednesday. The statement was released after the Democrat-controlled committee announced it had issued a series of demands that U.S. government agencies supply records related to the communications of the former president and officials in his administration just before the attack.

"The Leftist 'select committee' has further exposed itself as a partisan sham and waste of taxpayer dollars with a request that's timed to distract Americans from historic and global catastrophes brought on by the failures of Joe Biden and the Democrats," Trump said in his statement."Unfortunately, this partisan exercise is being performed at the expense of long-standing legal principles of privilege.

"Executive privilege will be defended, not just on behalf of my Administration and the Patriots who worked beside me, but on behalf of the Office of the President of the United States and the future of our Nation," Trump added."These Democrats only have one tired trick—political theater—and their latest request only reinforces that pathetic reality."

Former President Donald Trump called the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol a"partisan sham" on Wednesday. Trump is pictured speaking during a"Save America" rally in Cullman, Alabama on August 21, 2021.
