Tottenham is still waiting to move into their new stadium and are struggling to mount a sustained challenge for the Premier League title. For fans of rivals Arsenal, this sounds strangely familiar
LONDON—Back when Tottenham Hotspur’s shiny new stadium was still just a set of 3-D renderings, the club made a pointed announcement about one spec of its future home. It wasn’t the lounge with a view into the players’ tunnel, or the in-house micro-brewery that could deliver 10,000 pints a minute.
What Tottenham wanted to gloat about in 2015 was the stadium’s capacity: an even 61,000 seats. Not by coincidence, it was precisely 1,000 seats bigger than North London’s other state-of-the-art soccer venue, Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.
