Several dozen opponents of the law turned out to stage a counter protest.

It will also look at allegations the department engages in “retaliatory activity” against people for conduct protected by the First Amendment and “unlawfully seizes or disposes of the belongings of individuals experiencing homelessness.” “The investigation will include a comprehensive review of PhxPD policies, training, supervision, and force investigations, as well as PhxPD’s systems of accountability, including misconduct complaint intake, investigation, review, disposition, and discipline,” explained the DOJ.Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said in a statement she welcomes the investigation, deeming police reform a long-time priority of hers.
