Dogs found in the Chernobyl area are evolving faster than they normally would, a new genetics study suggests.
The explosion of the Chernobyl reactor in 1986 left a large area around the plant uninhabitable by humans because of lingering nuclear radiation. However, animals, like feral dogs, have continued to strive within the area, and new research shows that some Chernobyl animals may be evolving faster than others.earlier this month showcases an examination of over 300 feral dogs living within the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone .
The area around the Chernobyl power plant remains abandoned, save for the wildlife that calls it home.
