Corbin Carroll has been the catalyst for the Diamondbacks’ offense with a combination of power and speed that will likely make him the NL Rookie of the Year. He was 4 for 7 with a home run and a double in the two-game Wild Card Series sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers.. Max Muncy and J.D. Martinez joined them to give the Dodgers four 100-RBI hitters in the same lineup for the first time in franchise history. Last year’s 111-win team led the majors in runs scored .
Kelly and Gallen were two of the best starting pitchers in the NL this year – except when they faced the Dodgers. In six starts against them, Kelly and Gallen went 0-4 with a 5.93 ERA. The Dodgers batted .341 with 42 hits and 19 walks in 30⅓ innings against the pair. Given the depleted state of their starting pitching, the Dodgers’ October fate could rise or fall on the performance of this group. This series will provide a test drive for a unit that was the best in MLB over the second half of the season with a collective ERA of 2.28.
