The Dodgers are determined to get, Miguel Vargas, a steady diet of big-league at-bats in 2023, but the question is where Vargas will do the least harm defensively. The first stop for him will be second base with Muncy the everyday third baseman but that could change if Vargas struggles.
The likelihood is the 2023 infield will feature multiple configurations – all with Freeman at first base.The Dodgers hedged their bets on Lux as their everyday shortstop and Vargas as a capable defender on the infieldin a trade with the Miami Marlins. Rojas is an exceptional defender at shortstop who can also play second and third base capably, giving the Dodgers a fallback option if Lux struggles defensively and has to move back to second base or Vargas’ defense becomes a liability.
