Leaders in a series of school districts in central Ohio say their futures lie in voters' hands, with election day fast approaching.
Voters will decide to pass or fail a number of levies that could generate millions of dollars and help keep public education operating., leaders are looking to pass a bond issue that would help fund the construction of a 15th elementary school. District administration indicates the student population is growing with an additional 270 kids per year.
They're also asking for an operating levy that would cost the owner of a $550,000 home an additional $1,500 per year in property tax. District leaders say if the levy does not pass, they will have to create bigger class sizes and cut positions. If issue 12 is rejected, the board has approved a resolution to reduce the district's operating budget by $45 million. These reductions include 200 staff positions," said Superintendent Dr. John Marschhausen inposted to the DCS website. "Our district began deficit spending this year, and we face a negative cash balance in 2026.", leaders are trying to pass a renewal levy which they indicate would not be a new tax for property owners.
