Despite still fresh in audiences' minds, Disney has confirmed a Moana live-action remake is officially in development. The original Disney film centered on the daughter of a Polynesian village chief who must set out to find the demigod Maui in the hopes of saving her people by reuniting a mystical relic with the goddess Te Fiti.
Just over six years after the original film hit theaters, Dwayne Johnson took to Twitter with a surprise announcement that a Moana live-action remake is in the works at Disney. SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The video, as seen above, sees Johnson revealing the live-action reimagining to be in the works at the studio as they look to capitalize on the real Samoan locations that inspired the original film. Johnson also seemingly confirmed that he will be returning to play Maui in the upcoming Moana remake.
