The Boogeyman has a hidden Star Wars reference
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The hit horror movie The Boogeyman could’ve featured a fun Star Wars joke with Obi-Wan Kenobi’s young Leia Organa actress Vivien Lyra Blair, but Disney wouldn’t allow it. Based on the Stephen King short story of the same name, The Boogeyman revolves around two sisters who, while grieving the tragic death of their mother, have to contend with a supernatural presence that made its way into their house.
Blair has quickly become a renowned actor over the past few years with high-profile roles like Guppy in We Can Be Heroes and the girl who travels downriver with Sandra Bullock in Bird Box. But the project that really put Blair on the map was the Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries, in which she stole every scene from Ewan McGregor with her turn as a young Princess Leia.
Unfortunately, the producers of The Boogeyman hit a snag when they reached out to Disney to get permission to use the lightsaber image. In an integral scene in The Boogeyman, Sawyer’s nightlight fizzles out to leave her in darkness as a malevolent paranormal entity sneaks around the room. Disney had a problem with this scene, because a scene of a lightsaber toy fizzling out would make their products look defective.
The Boogeyman Still Has Big Disney Star Wars Connections Without Its Lightsaber Scene Even without the lightsaber, The Boogeyman has a Star Wars connection that Disney couldn’t refuse: both of its stars have appeared in Star Wars projects. Blair, of course, played young Leia in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, and her co-star Sophie Thatcher, who played Sawyer’s older sister Sadie, played Drash, the leader of a cyborg gang working for Boba Fett, in The Book of Boba Fett.
