Wheelchair user Donald Jackson, 60, has been trapped in his high rise since before Christmas

A disabled Edinburgh man says he is a "prisoner in his own home" due to the lift in his block of flats being broken for months. Wheelchair user Donald Jackson, 60, said that for the past five months he has been unable to get out of his high rise block in Greendykes House.

"I feel like a total let down to everybody. I'm a 60-year-old man and my wee sister is in her prime but my brother has MS so I feel gutted that they used to take me to the shops but now they go for me. I feel totally useless and I feel like nobody is listening to me. Donald says his family have offered to carry him down the flights of stairs but he refused for his own dignity and because he doesn't want to risk an accident. He continued: "I can't use the stairs or even get to the next floor. If there were a fire in here then I'm snookered. I'm finished. In my opinion I should be a priority to be moved elsewhere.
