Camp Hideout hit theaters September 15th.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Camp Hideout is a fun, family-friendly film that evokes classic summertime comedies of old while switching things up enough to offer viewers of all ages something new. The film stars Ethan Drew as Noah, a trouble-making teen who hides out at a summer camp after stealing a coveted piece of technology. Also starring in the film are Corbin Bleu as camp counselor Jake and Christopher Lloyd as Falco, the camp’s eccentric owner.
We've done a couple of family films together in this kind of zone with F.R.E.D.I. and Max Winslow and the House of Secrets, and so this was kind of a next step. We’re comfortable with this type of material, the tone, and kids’ films, and so it was just a perfect fit. Jason Brandt: It really depends. The first thing I focus on is the tone of the film or the show. I spent a great deal of time on that, and have a lot of conversations with the director about whatever they're looking for. I've had some films where they want it to be big, or smaller, or it needs to be a little more neutral, or they want more melody, or sometimes they want none at all. I had one director famously tell me, “I want no pianos. I'm sick of hearing pianos in a film score.
Then, instead of stealing a diamond--which we've seen countless times--we switched it to a gaming device. Really, the script changed a lot from the first draft to where we're at now. The hijinks were different, and the relationships were different. It was a major change when my wife wrote it. Sean Olson: I kind of gave Jason the hardest thing to write off of when I temped the opening sequence with what “The Adventures of Mutt” from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
But with the main character Noah, the way I approached him, I wanted him to have a retro funk [element], because he thinks of himself as very stealth and sneaky. He has his own spy music, as well as funk music, where his attitude doesn't really fit with everyone else because he's the cool guy. I wanted the music to kind of have its own thing, too, so it opens it up and you get a sense of what the camp is, versus what each of the characters are going through.
