The scent of controversy in Grimsby
Developers have caused a stir in Laceby as they seek to remove a pig smell-related housing condition on permission for 152 new homes.
But the buffer’s removal is linked to an application to rejig the layout of the proposed 152 homes and there is no suggestion at all from the applicants’ planning documents that they intend to expand further the site. A separate application for 60 more homes to the south-west of the 152 homes site and just beyond Willow Close was made by Land Developers Ltd in February. This remains under consideration.
‘Sniff’ surveys, were carried out three times across December 2021 and January 2022, including downwind of the pig farm at distances equivalent to the Field Head Lane 152 homes site. This involved someone breathing normally and inhaling through the nose approximately every ten seconds to get 30 samples over a five minute test period at each point. It is stated that “no recognisable pig farming odours were detected”.
