Cemex tries again with reduced plans for the Hykeham Quarry site. But are local residents ready for the change? 🏡

Plans to build 120 new homes at the former Hykeham Quarry have resurfaced, garnering further local opposition.

Previous applications for homes on the site were rejected by North Kesteven District Council due to the impact on wildlife. On social media, one local said:"What this application will do is add another 120 houses worth of people to the area and put pressure on services. The developers write that the site suffers from anti-social behaviour, and the development would mitigate this.

"This isolation has left the application site prone to trespass, anti-social behaviour and a threat to public safety, specifically in relation to swimming in the lake, all of which causes noise, litter and disturbance threatening the biodiversity value of Apex Lake and the more limited ecological value of the application site."

In response to criticism regarding Doddington Hall's involvement in the planning application, owner James Birch clarified that an ecological agent from Cemex contacted him about possible offsite work to offset the loss of scrub and woodland habitat from the proposed development, but no agreement has been reached.
