Jesse Hudson, one of the two 1969 New York Mets players that the team mistakenly announced was dead during their 50th anniversary celebration, let fans know he was alive and well.

The Mets drafted the Mansfield, Louisiana native in the 11th round of the 1967 MLB Draft from De Soto High School, where he was teammates with future Cy Young Award winner Vida Blue. After a stellar minor league season in 1969 where Hudson held teams to a scant 1.19 ERA between Single-A and Double-A ball, the Mets brought up the 20-year-old lefty reliever to get a taste of the big leagues.
“[I was] scared to death,” he said. “Really, it was just a spur of the moment thing. ... When I was warming up, and I knew was going in, I said, ‘Well, this is it; it’s either do or die.’
