Gov. Ron DeSantis said he will send 500 members of the Florida National Guard to Washington at the request of the U.S. Department of Defense
TALLAHASSEE — .
Florida's National Guard deployment is part of a request from Defense Secretary Mark Esper that states send troops to the nation's capital. Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser has not requested the outside law enforcement help. “You’ve got to look at swift accountability not just for the officer who had the knee, but the other ones who didn’t do anything,” DeSantis said.
He said he was assured by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement that holding a knee on a person's neck is not acceptable under department guidelines.
