Democrats are embarking on a fresh effort to reclaim New York congressional seats that flipped red by linking Republicans to scandal-embroiled Rep. George Santos (R-NY).
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which is the House Democrats' campaign arm, has begun a billboard campaign targeting five freshman Republicans who have taken money from Santos in the past, including Reps. Nick LaLota, Anthony D’Esposito, Mike Lawler, Marc Molinaro, and Brandon Williams.Since revelations emerged that Santos fabricated swaths of his personal backstory and resume, multiple New York Republicans have begun distancing themselves from him.
Billboards targeting the other three Republicans feature a photo of Santos posing with them and ask if they will return his donation. The billboard campaign cost five figures and began Monday, according to CNN. “I’ve been a terrible liar on those subjects," Santos said during a recent interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored.
