A new agreement with Japan called the 'Hiroshima Accords' - covering defense and cybersecurity - is to be announced by Rishi Sunak today after he touched down in the country this morning.
Rishi Sunak paid a visit to the Japanese aircraft carrier JS Izumo to meet the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force in Yokosuka Rishi SunakThe 'Hiroshima Accord', which will be agreed later today, are to commit the UK to deploying a naval battle fleet in the Indo-Pacific in 2025 and to double British troop numbers in upcoming joint exercises.
The deal will also launch a partnership on semiconductors, in order to reduce the UK's reliance on Beijing for the vital computer components. The prime minister will not hold more personal bilateral talks with Joe Biden at the event, but will instead sit down with Mr Kishida, France's Emmanuel Macron and India's Narendra Modi.
