THE decision of our parliament not the fly the Israeli flag was, in my view, the correct one. When responding to an international crisis it should, in the first instance, take cognisance of the principal, pre-eminent rules based on international institution the United Nations.Mindfulness of context helps individuals and organisations reflect with a modicum of coherence.
Those who wish to embark upon an exercise of selective virtue-signalling utilising our parliament’s flagpoles would be better served if they were to suggest that they fly both the Israeli and Palestinian flags side by side, but both at half mast. Possibly between the UN flag, at full height.We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories.
