For Spring, the unapologetically sexy brand Nafsika Skourti will debut its first full collection:

The sisters’ relationship is symbiotic. Nafsika is a graduate of Central Saint Martins who trained in haute couture embroidery and passementerie at Ecole Lesage in Paris and worked at Marchesa. Stephanie studied law and spent five years at Goldman Sachs before swapping finance for fashion. But the left brain/right brain binary doesn’t really explain their dynamic. “In reality, we work closely together on design, sales, operations, and image making,” says Stephanie.

There’s nothing remotely dudelike about the Spring collection, but it’s not all glitter and thrills either. “I find that a pinch of ‘offness’ can make something so modern—I love a bit of kitsch,” says Nafsika. “It’s the interplay and subversion of contrasting aesthetics and elements that excites me. When everything is ‘nice’ it’s boring.”

The sisters are very engaged with the “weaving of cultural narratives and exploration of region-specific political histories,” as Stephanie puts it. In fact, the Victoria and Albert was excited enough by the brand’s Jerusalem ensemble from a previous collection—featuring a print that was a mash-up of images of Petra, the Parthenon, and the Dome of the Rock, representing Jordan, Greece, and Palestine, respectively—that it acquired it for the museum’s collection.
