A dead harbor porpoise washed up in the Ortley Beach section of Toms River on Tuesday morning, according to officials. The Marine Mammal Stranding Center says this is the second time a harbor porpoise stranding has occurred in New Jersey this year.
A deceased harbor porpoise washed up in Ocean County on Tuesday morning, officials said.
A witness said he spotted the animal around 8 a.m. in the area of 6th Avenue in the Ortley Beach section of Toms River. The Marine Mammal Stranding Center said it is responding to the oceanfront but didn’t have additional information.Stanley Poulsensome resemblance to a dolphin but dolphins have longer snouts, bigger mouths, more curved dorsal fins, and longer, leaner bodies than porpoises, according to WorldWildlife.org.
