The incident came days after an off-duty Harris County Sheriff's deputy was killed while approaching two men in the process of stealing his catalytic converter, according to court documents.
An off-duty New Caney ISD police officer was injured while confronting suspects accused of stealing catalytic converters in northeast Harris County on Saturday, April 2, 2022.A police officer was injured late Saturday night while attempting to stop suspected catalytic converter thieves at a movie theater in northeast Harris County, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.
The confrontation turned violent when the suspects attempted to run over two off-duty New Caney Independent School District officers, leading police to open fire, the sheriff said. One of the officers sustained a minor leg injury, possibly from a ricochet of one of his bullets.while approaching two men in the process of stealing his catalytic converter, according to court documents. Two men were charged with capital murder in the Thursday shooting.
After police ordered the men out of their vehicle, they accelerated toward the officers, the sergeant said. The policemen discharged their weapons at the car, striking it possibly three or four times and likely flattening a tire. The sedan fled westbound on the Beltway feeder road, Beall said. The injured officer was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
