He was originally convicted in 2007 for his wife's murder. The ruling was overturned in 2016, and he was granted a retrial after evidence surfaced of prosecutorial misconduct. Attorneys were accused of withholding information from the defense during the first conviction.
Temple was found guilty for the second time in August 2019, during the retrial. In the sentencing phase, the jury could not make a unanimous decision, leading to a mistrial. In 2023, the sentencing phase begins again with a new jury.Temple’s wife, Katy High School teacher Belinda Temple, was found shot in 1999, in a closet of their home. She was eight months pregnant at the time and the couple’s son was 3-years-old.
Prosecutors said Temple, who was a football coach at Alief Hastings High School, was motivated by an affair he was having with a new teacher.
