Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts expressed support for the franchise’s 10th annual Pride Night on Friday, saying: “It’s a big, overarching kind of question in the sense that my parents raised me to love everyone.” More from FabianArdaya.
“People are going to have different opinions, but our culture now is in a place where we’re not coexisting and that’s what’s sad and unfortunate,” Roberts said. “I love everyone. That’s kind of where I’m at. Anyone who wants to come in here and support us and the Dodgers, I’m all in. We’re all in. That’s how I was raised.”
Giants manager Gabe Kapler said he was “very proud to be wearing pride colors tonight. I know many of our players feel the same.” Kapler grew up in Southern California and he knows Los Angeles to be “an inclusive city.” Asked his thoughts on protestors outside the ballpark, Kapler said, “I believe in and support any peaceful protest.”
There was a notable increase in security and police presence at the ballpark ahead of the event, with security guards lining the railing as the Giants took batting practice Friday. The Dodgers did not take on-field batting practice. The Giants were informed that they had to clear the field a half-hour earlier than usual, so they moved up their batting practice. Security had a hold-in-place order for all field personnel immediately prior to the Pride Night introductions.
