Daughter's tribute to dad who had prostate cancer for 27 years
For the past four years, one Darwen resident has been completing a mammoth challenge to raise money for worthy causes.
Shona told LancsLive: "He lost all of his hair and he found it really tough at first, especially with his eating and you know, because you can't taste things. He was put on pretty heavy painkillers which he really struggled with, but they adjusted those so it was alright." Four years ago, Shona started walking up and down the Tower as something for her to do when her "ex-husband left the family" and chose Lent as the period of time to complete the challenge. Lent is a 40-day period where Christians remember the events leading up to and the death of Jesus Christ. It is usually marked with followers giving up something up, to test their self-discipline.
"I do a lot of walking anyway, but Darwen tower is one of those walks that I enjoy." Shona said that the walks during Lent were so enjoyable for herself the first time she did it, that every year after she wanted to do it again, but thought she'd have the "charity spin" as an extra motivator.
