On March 1, the day of the upcoming Texas primaries, Dallas Area Rapid Transit will provide free round-trip transit to all riders traveling to their polling location., a nonpartisan voter advocacy group, says the service will help more voters get to the polls.
“This is a great service and is more needed than most realize because so many voters use public transportation,” Tasian said. The service will also be free for riders using the Dallas Streetcar, GoLink, Paratransit Services and the Trinity Railway Express commuter train between EBJ Union Station and CentrePort/DFW Airport Station.
GoLink riders can use the code VOTE22 on DART’s GoPass app to receive an Adult Local Day Pass valid on March 1.Barbara Larkin, vice president of voter services at the League of Women Voters of Dallas, says voters regularly reach out to them to request assistance getting to their polling location. “People are always in search of a ride to the polls,” Larkin said. “This year, with people having difficulties with the mail-in ballot process, the demand for transportation will likely be higher.”passed during the 2021 Texas Legislative session established stricter ID requirements for voters wishing to cast their ballots by mail. Under SB 1, voters must now provide their driver’s license number or the last four digits of their social security number as part of their vote-by-mail application.
