There might be a shortage of elite CFL quarterbacks, but the league currently has a strong group of owners.

With a weak showing in a victory and a strong showing in a loss, Harris currently ranks somewhere in the middle among the starting quarterbacks, certainly above the disasters in Ottawa, Edmonton and Hamilton but below Zach Collaros in Winnipeg and Vernon Adams in B.C. He’s close to Toronto’s Chad Kelly, his Saskatchewan predecessor Cody Fajardo and Calgary’s Jake Maier, who took over for Hall of Fame-bound Bo Levi Mitchell when the latter was deemed “washed-up” and dealt to Hamilton.

Reynolds said CFL governors, during their winter meetings, talked about the paucity of star quarterbacks among the nine teams. No longer do CFL rosters have quarterback crops flush with future Hall of Famers like Henry Burris, Ricky Ray and Anthony Calvillo or Damon Allen, Danny McManus and Doug Flutie.Article content

That’s in contrast to what the CFL has done within its ownership ranks with the recent additions of Pierre Karl Peladeau and Amar Doman, new owners of the Montreal Alouettes and B.C. Lions respectively. This strong and currently unimpeachable ownership group represents a league that has survived team owners like Harold Ballard, Murray Pezim, Sherwood Schwarz, Larry Ryckman, Nick Mileti, Gary Stern and Michael Feterik.Article content
