It was literally his welcome-to-the-NHL moment, something the entire hockey world was awaiting so it could judge his skills, his ability to perform at an elite level and his mannerisms. Bedard was humble through the entire process.
Everyone chuckled. But Bedard was serious. That’s how he saw things, with a youthful humility that’s very rare these days in talented athletes. The NHL has already mined Bedard/Crosby for promotional conversations and light-hearted competitions such as a faceoff showdown that was replayed during Tuesday’s telecast. The only time Bedard looked annoyed was when Colby Armstrong, the drawmaster, declared Crosby the winner.He wants to get better, so he continually works on every aspect of his game, from conditioning to his world-class shot. There used to be concerns about his size and, indeed, the Penguins knocked him down a few times.
