Dallas sculptor's colorful blobs, drips and squishes are part of an eye-catching group show called 'Beyond Reality.'
"The work started with this idea of beauty and repulsion and making artwork that exists between those two ideas, so it's something that kind of pulls you in but pushes you away the closer you observe it," she said."But I think now it's evolved into maybe thinking more about what it is you’re seeing and what is happening in a piece, calling into question a little bit more about reality and perception and how we’re seeing, how we’re experiencing seeing.
Her work has been featured in exhibition spaces all over the country, including the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas and the Hashimoto Contemporary in New York and Los Angeles, as well as a 2019 show at San Antonio's Southwest School of Art (now the UTSA Southwest Campus. She also has shown her work internationally.
She hopes that her work fires up viewers' imaginations, regardless of how and where they encounter it. "My main thing is hoping that people leave a little bit more curious," she said."I think whether that be looking at the work and just wondering what it’s made of, what it’s representing or what it means, any of those questions, just as long as there’s some kind of question-asking that happens.
"At least in my experience, when I look at art, if I start to have that kind of dialogue with a piece or whatever it is I’m seeing, it always leads to more questions. And that can be inspiring."
