Hundreds of messages have been left after the sudden death of a popular rugby player and on-call firefighter.
The club described him as 'inspirational and forever in our hearts" with more teams reaching out to show their respects. Carlisle RFC said: "Our sincerest condolences to Ryan's family and all at Penrith RUFC from everyone at Carlisle RFC. A tragic loss."A full statement from Penrith RUFC said: “It is with deepest regret that we report the passing of our club member, player, past 1st XV Captain & Cumbria County player Ryan Johnson on 1st December 2022.
Scott Rattray, who set the fundraiser, said: "I'm sad to announce that Ryan's' family lost a great man. While pursuing his passion for rugby, Ryan was suddenly taken ill on the training pitch. Despite the best efforts of his teammates and paramedics, we couldn't bring him back, and he sadly passed away. Ryan was 34-years-old and leaves a wife and young family behind.
"We have set up this page to see if we can raise funds from his friends and the wider Rugby family, to help towards his funeral costs. It would be great if we could take that financial burden away from the family at this difficult time."
