Signing day notebook: Cypress Ranch, Westfield, North Shore stars make college pledges official
Cy-Falls quarterback Jakob Leavatts, left, is sacked by Cy-Ranch defensive lineman Ashton Porter during a game in November 2022.Oregon made quite the splash in Texas during this recruiting cycle, and the Ducks’ haul of four-star recruits was finalized Wednesday as Cypress Ranch defensive end Ashton Porter signed his letter of intent.
Oregon was able to sign five of the top 50 players in Texas, two of which were from Houston. Porter will be joined by Dripping Springs quarterback Austin Novosad, Coppell defensive lineman Johnny Bowens, Cypress Woods defensive lineman Terrance Green and Flower Mound Marcus wide receiver Ashton Cozart.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Oregon had the No. 9-ranked recruiting class in the country, according to 247Sports.Westfield senior P.J. Hatter had one of the most productive seasons for a Houston-area quarterback in recent memory, accounting for nearly 5,000 yards and 67 touchdowns while leading the Mustangs on another lengthy postseason run.
