The cyclist could not be saved despite the best efforts of medics
A cyclist has died after being involved in a collision with a lorry in Glasgow city centre on Friday, police have confirmed.The cyclist was rushed to the city's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time after arriving.
Pictures from the scene show police guarding a cordon on the Clydeside thoroughfare at its junction with Oswald Street. Officers maintained a presence for several hours while investigations took place. The road re-opened shortly before 7.30pm, around nine hours after the incident.Top news stories today A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were called around 10.10am on Friday, January 27, to a report of a crash on Broomielaw, Glasgow, involving a cyclist and a HGV.
"Emergency services attended and the cyclist was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by ambulance and was pronounced dead a short time later. "The road was closed and re-opened around 7.25pm. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."Read next:
