Virginia Flores was named the new Cy-Fair ISD athletic director, replacing Ray Zepeda who took the UIL director of athletics post.Cy-Fair ISD’s search for its next athletic director didn’t last long. In fact, the district had the perfect candidate the whole time.“I am incredibly honored and humbled to serve the district in this new position,” Flores said via CFISD.
Flores, who holds degrees from the University of Texas and Lamar University, has 24 years of education experience, 20 of those years at Cy-Fair ISD, and has served as one of three associate athletic directors since 2020 alongside Kirk Eaton and Charles Ament under Ray Zepeda,Zepeda, who will start his new job in June, has been leading CFISD as athletic director since June 2016 and served as an associate athletic director before that.
As associate athletic director, Flores has been in charge of several sports, including softball, volleyball, girls basketball, girls golf, swimming & diving, water polo and girls track & field. She also supervised middle programs at Aragon, Kahla, Labay, Thornton, Truitt, and Watkins. Prior to taking the associate athletic director job, Flores led the girls basketball program at Cypress Woods for over a decade, leading the Wildcats to nine playoff appearances and 2014-15 state championship, before she was promoted to assistant principal, where she served for three years.
Flores started her career as an English teacher and assistant girls basketball coach at Cy-Fair for three years and then took over the girls basketball program at Magnolia for four years before moving to Cypress Woods. She’s also the wife to Richard Flores, Cypress Falls’ head basketball coach.
