Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley has joined dozens of prosecutors from across the country in pledging to avoid charging those who seek or provide abortions.

CLEVELAND, Ohio –

O’Malley declined to comment Monday, other than acknowledging in a statement that he had signed on to “the Fair and Just Prosecution’s Joint Statement from Elected Prosecutors regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision.” “This is a good thing,” said Jessie Hill, a professor of law at Case Western Reserve University and an attorney who worked for the American Civil Liberties Union in the heartbeat bill case in Ohio.

“As elected prosecutors, ministers of justice, and leaders in our communities, we cannot stand by and allow members of our community to live in fear of the ramifications of this deeply troubling decision,” the letter says.
