Civil Rights attorney AttorneyCrump said the next Supreme Justice nominee – whom Democratic President Joe Biden pledged would be a Black woman – offers American a chance to advance its ideals and the high court a chance to broaden its perspective.

"I think that this is very important for President Biden nominate a Black woman, not only to fill his promise that he made during the campaign but for America to fulfill its promise that it made to its ideals that we all are created equally," Crump tells Forbes in an phone interview.

"We are on the cusp of a historic announcement," says Crump, a Tallahassee, Fla.-based attorney who has represented the families Trayvon Martin, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd.at the end of the high court's term this summer. Biden said during the 2020 Democratic primaries that he would nominate a Black woman to the post if elected president, a commitment the White House affirmed this week.

Biden this Thursday he would announce his nominee by the end of February, a step that would then kick off a U.S. Senate confirmation process.
