The Sausalito City Council was critical of the measure during a Sept. 5 meeting, with councilmembers questioning whether the tax could even be collected and accusing signature-gatherers of possibly using misinformation to gather signatures. Councilmember Joan Cox said that the measure was “evil genius” because it would tax existing delivery services, but future pot companies that open in the town could be exempt.
McCloud said the measure was organized by “a group of residents,” as well as Pearson and a Sonoma County group called the Sonoma County Conservation Action Political Action Committee. He told SFGATE last week that the proposal was pulled because it was taking too much energy from city staff.
