Two major wildfires are spreading in one New Jersey county this weekend as officials say a recent dry spell has helped allow wildfires to run rampant.
Crews responded to the Brendan T Byrne State Forest for reports of a fire in the area of City Line Road in Browns Mills, Burlington County, Friday afternoon. Flames have since torched 850 acres, and is 50 percent contained as of Saturday morning with no structures at risk.
No roads are closed at this time, but the New Jersey Forrest Fire Service has asked residents to avoid the area as crew continue to contain the fire. Officials anticipate 100 percent containment late Saturday or sometime Sunday. An additional wildfire took hold in Evesham Township Friday evening, near Kettle Run Road. The Buzby Boggs Wildfire has spread to 600 acres as of Saturday, with 50 percent containment and five structures threatened.
Officials said Kettle Run was closed between Sycamore and Braddock Mill. No structures were threatened, as authorities said they expected the fire to grow to about 400 acres before fire crews would be able to contain it.
