While a few lab studies have suggested boosters might improve protection against Omicron, today we got the first real-world data from the UKHSA that boosters will really work. COVID19 analysis from Sky's aTomClarke 👇

It's very early data, based on just 581 people who've had Omicron, but it suggests that people who have been boosted are only about 10% less well protected against infection with Omicron than they were after two vaccine doses against Delta.

Given what we know about Delta, it's reasonable to assume that that will translate into good levels of protection from hospitalisation and death in people who have had boosters. And that figure of a million infections by the end of the month is also assuming things continue as they are, with no change in people's behaviour. All nations of the UK have now introduced Plan B type measures to try and control the spread.

All that said though, most experts I've talked to still think Omicron is by far the most worrying form of COVID we've seen so far. Initial results show that if someone in your household is infected, you're twice as likely to get infected yourself.
