North Lanarkshire Council scrap overdue library fines.

Residents will no longer be charged overdue fines at libraries across the area.

The council have taken the decision to get rid of penalties in another step to help households out during the cost of living crisis.The local authority now join a number of libraries across the country, who have removed fines. However fines will still be in place for damaged or lost books. Russell Brown, North Lanarkshire Council’s Community Libraries Manager, said: “The fear of incurring charges can be a barrier to joining the library so we hope with this change, we can encourage more residents to join.”
