Controversy has surrounded concerts and events at Ebrington since several promoters were asked to move in the summer
Ebrington Square in Derry could yet prove to be one of the best spots for this year's Halloween Festival, after concerns were raised about the absence of planned events.
The controversy surrounding the use of Ebrington Square - a former parade ground situated at the centre of the former Ebrington military base - erupted in July when it emerged promoters had been asked to move to an alternative venue by civil servants, following the intervention of the owners of the newly opened Ebrington Hotel.
The local council is to discuss concerts and events at Ebrington on Friday after a motion was passed in September calling for Derry City and Strabane council to take over the handling of concerts and events. But the council has hinted that Ebrington, a site with a panoramic view of the Foyle and a popular location to watch the annual Halloween fireworks display, could yet prove a significant part of the carnival again this year.
