Hoover officials are investigating the possibility of transforming the old Sears location at the Riverchase Galleria into some kind of health care facility. The building has been unoccupied since 2019. Hoover is the largest Alabama city without a hospital.
“It’s not going to be this huge hospital to start with - not for five to 10 years, maybe. Maybe a large surgery center, but maybe with an overnight hospital. We think that Hoover is an incredibly overlooked healthcare market. When we started talking about it, people started reaching out to us even from outside the State of Alabama.”
The addition of a healthcare presence could spark additional mixed-use development in the area, such as residential “blended in.”
